The Stonewall 50 Consortium is an organization that brings together scores of nonprofit institutions and organizations committed to producing programming, exhibitions, and educational materials related to the Stonewall uprising and/or the history of the LGBTQ civil rights movement in the context of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising in June 2019. It was founded by the bestselling author of Making Gay History, Eric Marcus.
OAK is a national strategic partnership of organizations from diverse sectors with a common interest in connecting children, youth and families with the outdoors. OAK’s members are brought together by the belief that the wellness of current and future generations, the health of our planet and communities and the economy of the future depend on humans having a personal, direct and life-long relationship with nature and the outdoors.

Organizations and Initiatives Connecting the LGBTQ Community and the Outdoors:
In June of 2016 NPS launched a 1000+ page report mapping out how the legacy of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer individuals can be recognized, preserved and interpreted for future generations. The theme study was written and peer-reviewed by more than 30 subject matter experts and released on National Coming Out Day, October 11, 2016.
Seattle-based Out There Adventures leads trips for LGBTQ youth and empowers queer young people through their connection with the natural world.
Based in Massachusetts, The Venture Out Project offers camping trips for the queer and trans community in a safe and inclusive environment. They also provide comprehensive inclusion workshops for educators, adventure professionals, summer/day camps and more.
Mikah is a gay man on a road trip to become the youngest person to visit all 417 National Park Service sites. Along the way he is taking beautiful photos with his rainbow flag, talking about the LGBTQ community and the outdoors, and boosting visibility for LGBTQ park visitors.
Jenny Bruso is a self-identified fat, femme, queer, writer and hiker on a trajectory of healing, self-care and adventure in the outdoors. Through sharing her personal stories and the @UnlikelyHikers Instagram community, she wants to bust up preconceived notions of what an “outdoorsperson” looks like and put a spotlight on diversity, inclusion and representation.
To celebrate Pride Month and National Ocean Month, Pride Outside partnered with NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries to boost representation and inclusion in the outdoors with a social media campaign.
Rainbow History Project collects, preserves, and promotes an active knowledge of the history, arts, and culture relevant to sexually diverse communities in metropolitan Washington DC. We partner to host free LGBTQ history walking tours in various neighborhoods.
The Avarna Group is a diversity, equity, and inclusion outdoors consultancy. They provide a treasure trove of free resources on their website about understanding and promoting equity outdoors.
